Rapid

Response

Rapid Response is an emergency foster care service that provides immediate, short-term placement and crisis intervention for children who are in urgent need of a safe environment.

What is Rapid Response?

Rapid Response is a crisis-driven service that ensures children experiencing sudden removal from their homes due to abuse, neglect, or other emergencies are placed in a secure and stable environment while longer-term solutions are identified.

How does Rapid Response work?

When a child is removed from a dangerous or unstable situation, they are placed with a trained foster family on short notice. These families provide immediate care, emotional support, and stability while social workers assess the child’s needs and determine a long-term plan.

Why is Rapid Response important?

Children facing sudden placement changes are often scared and vulnerable. Rapid Response provides them with a safe, compassionate environment where their immediate needs—such as shelter, food, emotional support, and medical care—are met while caseworkers work on their next steps.

What are the goals of Rapid Response?
  • Provide immediate safety and stability for children in crisis.
When children are removed from dangerous situations, they need an immediate, safe place to stay. Rapid Response ensures they are placed in a secure home with trained caregivers as quickly as possible.
  • Reduce trauma and uncertainty during emergency placements.
Sudden removals can be terrifying for children. Rapid Response focuses on making transitions as smooth as possible by offering comfort, reassurance, and emotional support.
  • Offer short-term care while social workers determine the best long-term solution.
Since emergency placements are temporary, caseworkers quickly assess each child’s situation to determine the most appropriate next steps, whether that’s reunification, foster care, or another placement.
  • Support children’s emotional and physical well-being during transitions.
Children experiencing crises may have immediate medical, emotional, or psychological needs. Rapid Response caregivers ensure children receive appropriate care and support.
  • Help facilitate reunification, foster placement, or permanent placement options.
The goal is to move children into a more stable, long-term setting as soon as possible, whether that’s back with their biological family, into foster care, or another permanent home.
